Hassan Sharif Museum and Archive Library "We are trying to find the archive, translate it, deliver it, and we hope to find someone to read it." These words by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi shaped the foundation of our design for The Hassan Sharif Museum and Archive. Our aim was to create a space that welcomes not only researchers, but anyone interested in engaging with the archive, artworks, and publications of—or related to—Emirati artist Hassan Sharif. Situated in the pedestrian-friendly neighborhood of Al Jaddaf, the museum leverages its setting through a public sculpture park. The park links the main bridge to a vertical circulation core, guiding visitors through a series of paths—while still allowing them to wander and get lost among the artworks. Inside, the museum is designed to adapt. Rotating walls and doors open and close in response to changing exhibitions, events, and seasons. Materials were carefully selected based on a mapping radius of 300 km, 130 km, and 9 km—resulting in a palette of raw and polished local limestone, calcite rock, gondola wood, and mangrove clay wash. The result is a museum that not only preserves memory, but activates it—becoming a living, accessible, and evolving cultural space for all.
